What a difference a vowel makes (Tempe to Tampa 2003).
So here I am in Florida, supposedly working but I wanted to post from this frigid state. Flew into Tampa Bay yesterday, then drove forever and a day out into the boonies, past a little town called New Port Richie, out to Crystal River. Sweet mother of god is this the boondocks or what. The hotel is nice, but there isn't any internet connections in the room, and I have a serious doubt that there is anywhere here that I can snag a wireless connection either.
It's cold and humid, but everything is so cheap. Cigarettes are two bucks a pack. Gas prices seem about the same, maybe a little bit more then AZ.
That's all for now. I should get back to work.

It looks like dooce is in trouble. If you have a few extra bucks, perhaps you could send some her way. She is one of the best 'bloggers ( I hate that word ) around and it would totally suck for her to not be around (again).

(And for you northerners, that shiny thing at the top of the third picture would be the sun. In some parts of the world, it comes out every day. Honest.

So I was playing with Heather, which consists of throwing her mouse into the bedroom for her to fetch, and I give the mouse a heafty toss into the bedroom, bouncing off the door. She runs off after it, then comes back. She has a swagger that says 50% 'I couldn't find the mouse' and 50% 'I've grown tired of the mouse'. Then she paces across the desk, which is 50% 'I'm looking for a good place to lay down', and 50% 'Is the mouse still up here'.
She is such a freak...

I have become a Microsoft Money junkie. I love that program, and if I can keep to my budget I will be able to save $6000 this year, not includeing any raises or my income tax refund. I am so totally going to have a nice long week vacation somewhere this year.

Does it make me stupid or a bad person to prefer Richard Russo to Jose Saramago? I picked up 'All the Names' by Saramago because it sounded like a good story, plus he won a Nobel prize for literature. I made it about 40 pages into it and couldn't go on. I imagine, in it's native Portuguese, it is wonderful and breathtaking. But the translation I have manages to do things like jam 5 commas into one sentence. So tonight I grabbed 'The Risk Pool' by Russo. I was pretty sure I would like it as I loved 'Nobody's Fool' and 'Empire Falls'. Plus, he did win a Pulitzer. I am 40 pages into it and it is a good one.

So I am thinking of taking a vacation this year. I want to go somewhere away for a week. I was thinking London or Paris, the former could be done for about $1300 for the ticket and hotel for 6 nights. Any recommendations? Anyone been to London or Paris, or anywhere in Europe for that matter? What about other interesting destinations?

Gonna dive into a dive
I've dove into before
Gonna haunt a haunt I've haunted
Like a million times or more
A familiar joint
Where getting drunk's the only point
To frequent this place
With any frequency at all
Countin' on a remedy
I've counted on before
Goin' with a cure that's never failed me
What you call the disease,
I call the remedy
What you're callin' the cause,
I call the cure
Gonna sing a song, a song to you
A song I've sung before
Belt out a ballad that I've belted out
A million times or more
The words I'm gonna scream
And getting drunk's the central theme
to the lyrics, if you can
make the lyrics out at all
Countin' on a remedy
I've counted on before
Goin' with a cure that's never failed me
What you call the disease,
I call the remedy
What you're callin' the cause,
I call the cure
Just a devotion to a potion
Please no applause
A dedication to a medication
A crutch a cure a cause
What I've counted on to pick me up
Has knocked me to my knees
Before I hit the floor once more
I'll call it the disease
Countin' on a remedy
I've counted on before
Goin' with a cure that's never failed me
What you call the disease,
I call the remedy
What you're callin' the cause,
I call the cure
