Had a pretty good weekend. Got a lot of stuff done and that always feels good. Picked up new glasses on Saturday, ouch. Including the cost of the exam it was about $400 for a pair of glasses and a pair of sunglasses.. I like the frames for my glasses, and for the sunglasses, I got a pair of standard Ray Ban frames. I will have to get a new picture for my about page, since that really doesn't look much like me anymore.
Got a couple pair of new shoes. Black dressy-type shoes and a pair of crosstrainers from REI. I had my dividend to use and sunday was the last day.
Wandered a little bit around the Tempe Art Festival, but the crouds were annoying, so I bailed on that quickly. Got the car washed. Read. Napped. All in all, a productive weekend.
And, just more proof that if there was a god, he hates me. Friday, the ex-girlfriend (she who shall remain nameless) came up in conversation at work, so who do I see as I am getting out of my car at REI? Gah..

I am becoming a big fan of kill rockstars records. The really cool thing, is all the members of the bands on that label are members of all the other bands. So, if you happen to like one particularly talented and lovely performer, say Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney, you would see that she is also in Cadallaca and Heavens to Betsy. Very cool indeed.

Here are some Sleater-Kinney mp3's.
(please don't stream them, right click and save. Also, go buy their albums!!!)
One More Hour
Turn It On
Burn, Don't Freeze

Since I can't turn on my radio ( which is premanently tuned to NPR ) without getting a second-by-second update of the invasion war in Iraq, I had to look for something else to listen to. My quest took me to Zia Records obvoisly. Picked up a couple of Sleater-Kinney cds (Dig Me Out and The Hot Rock). I must say that I heart Sleater-Kinney. They are rockers, they rock out.
Also picked up 'Dead Man's Walk' by Larry McMurtry from Borders, since I finished my last book.

The Onion rules. They just rule...

Bush Orders Iraq To Disarm Before Start Of War
WASHINGTON, DC—Maintaining his hardline stance against Saddam Hussein, President Bush ordered Iraq to fully dismantle its military before the U.S. begins its invasion next week. "U.S. intelligence confirms that, even as we speak, Saddam is preparing tanks and guns and other weapons of deadly force for use in our upcoming war against him," Bush said Sunday during his weekly radio address. "This madman has every intention of firing back at our troops when we attack his country." Bush warned the Iraqi dictator to "lay down [his] weapons and enter battle unarmed, or suffer the consequences."

How many people actually play board games on a regular basis? I have been playing a good deal of board games lately. Martin has something of an affinity to them. I think more people need to play board games as they are almost the perfect social activity. There is enough to keep your attention, but not enough to preclude conversation.
Some games I would recommend:
The Settlers of Catan (the entire series)
Aquire
Shark
Union Pacific

Can anyone recommend a good book on Go? I picked up a go board this weekend so I need to brush up on the rules, strategies, etc. Plus, I need to find people to play go with.

Holy Crap! 3 great lakes freeze over. Must be cold back there. Right now, in Tempe it's 66 degrees, with an expected high of 80.

I saw 2 segways downtown on Sunday. There is just something unnatural with the way people look on those things. You look at them and think 'you sould fall over, or at least look like you are trying to balance yourself'. The couple stood at the crosswalk just as stable as you please. Totally cool, but totally bizarre.

I went into Zia's on Saturday to look for some used Emme Lou Harris cds ( which they didn't have ) and left with 2 Leo Kotte cds, a Sundays cd, and Alison Krauss + Union Station cd. Why is it totally impossible for me to go into that store and not buy stuff?
Also, could someone explain the logic of Alison Krauss + Union Station playing in Grand Rapids, but not in Phoenix? Or did I just miss that show?

I give up. I quit. Stick a fork in me, I'm done.
In what should have been a simple trip to the bank on lunch, I apparently made a left on the turnpike of reality and ended up in the Idiot Zone. I go in and stand in line and eventually get the priviledge to speak to one of the tellers. I explain to him that I want to increase the daily limit on my Debit card, and he says, "did you open your account here?". Apparently, at Wells Fargo, if you want to alter your account in any way, you must go to the branch where you opened your account. So here is this huge bank, branches all over the country, but to change my daily limit, which limits my access to my money ( not credit or anything like that, this is my money) I have to go back across town to the branch I opened the account. All I could do was nod, take my card, and leave. Otherwise I would have probably landed in jail...

Sometimes I just think that the entire world is against me. After dealing with newegg.com to attempt to purchase a metric buttload of new computer equipment, it all boiled down to the fact that they won't ship to an address that isn't on your credit card. Seeing as my credit card is my bank card, the only thing the bank could do is change my address to my work address ( see, I'm single and have a job, therefor I am not at home when the FedEx man comes ), and then change it back. Given Wells Fargo's wonderful history of fucking up my address, this I decided is a bad thing. So I call newegg.com and try to get some help to resolve this, but no. The guy is simply 'We can't ship to an address that's not listed on the card'. So I cancel my order for my stuff and am totally pissed at the world.
Anybody know a good place to buy computer parts online that will ship to a work address without some sort of contract in blood?
