Fun!!! Due to big hairy memory-corrupting bugs in PHP, we get to rewrite our entire software package ( which we have been working on for a year ) in perl. In 30 days. Wheeee!!!!!!

::: posted by Scott at 04:33 PMGot two of my first 3 movies from Netflix this weekend, Band of Brothers and Secretary. I guess I am glad I didn't spend the cash to pick up the Band of Brothers DVD set. I don't quite understand what all the hype was about with this show. It was ok, but nothing spectacular. It seems as if all the characters were pretty much plopped down with no backstory and no personality. The book was much, much better.
Secretary, on the other hand, was an interesting and disturbing movie. Also, Maggie Gyllenhaal is a sexy momma. But if deviant behavior isn't your cup o' tea, I would suggest passing this one. The characters are good and complex, but seem mostly real. I liked it.
So I finally went out and spent a crap-load of money on Sunday to buy new computer parts for my workstation. (Ok, not a crap load, only about $400).
Picked up a Soyo SY-P4I 845PE Lite motherboard, an Intel P4 2.4b Ghz processor, and 512 megs of PC2700 333Mhz ram. Still getting everything set up, but since I bought all this at the local frys, my motherboard is missing an I/O shield for the back. I am going to write Soyo and see if I can get a replacement.
I am planning a hike down into the Grand Canyon. I will be trying to get a permit for one of the following weekends:
September 5-7
September 12-14
September 19-21
My plan is to hike down on a friday ( leaving Tempe at god-awful o'clock ), spend friday and saturday nights there, and hike out on sunday. I am trying to get a 3 person permit, so I have a slot open if anyone wants to go. Permits for September have to be in on May 1st, so if anyone wants to go, but has a problem with any of the weekends( or has a first, second, third choice ), let me know. It should be fun and if I don't get a September pass, I will try again in October.
For some Grand Canyon information, check out the GCNP backcountry site.
::: posted by Scott at 11:22 AMThis is very cool. I wonder how something like this would react around my cats, and visa-versa.
::: posted by Scott at 11:24 AMA note to those Eclipse users out there. When you install a new version, and import your existing projects into the new workspace, be aware that it doesn't copy the files to the new workspace directory. If you don't double-check this, you could end up deleteing all your source code when you remove the old version. And all the source-code for your wonderful, fully-functional, multi-threaded rss aggregator will be gone.
Damn it.
I haven't been posting as much as I would like lately, simply because I haven't had much to say. Life rolls on pretty much like it does. Part of this is because I have this internal monologue that is constantly running. It's not so much that I am just thinking stuff, it's as if I am actually talking to myself, just not out loud. So that when I get around to writing this stuff down, I am either done with it, or too depressed to bother. Most of my internal monologuing has been pretty much depressing self-pity shit and no one wants to hear that. I guess I am still trying to figure out a few things.
My dad got sick last week, and no one knows what's wrong with him. He was supposed to a surgeon today, I think, so they could stick a scope in him. He's had a couple of cat scans already, and they still have no idea.
Finished Dead Man's Walk over the weekend, and started Comnache Moon. Pretty good, I would recommend it if one likes westerns.
