I watched 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' last night, It's a pretty good film with some really great characters. Watching the interviews with the real residents of Savanna that are in the book and movie reinforced my theory that anyone from or currently living in the state of Georgia is completely insane.

Ok, now that I have started having meal-replacement shakes for breakfast, I remember why I never ate breakfast. If I skip breakfast, I can go a lot longer until I get hungry, but if I eat breakfast, I get hungry much, much sooner.
Does this happen to everyone or just me?

I forgot to mention I finally went to see 'The Matrix: Reloaded' this weekend. Is it just me or did it not quite stack up to the original. Seems like there was a higher cheesy-ness factor to this one. The whole Persophone thing which could have been explained more, if we skipped out on one or two of the useless fight sequences, or perhaps trimmed down the whole sex/tribal dance/rave scene a bit. Also, it seems like about 50 percent of the time that someone was talking, they were delivering a ( well scripted ) monologue of some sort. Overall, I liked it, but was a bit disappointed.
And for a bit of continuity, after that sex scene, when Trinity is wrapped around Neo, and we see his back, they show a row of plugs running up his spine. Didn't they explicitly show Dozer removing those in the first movie?

Had a mildly productive weekend/holiday thing. Started seriously working out for the Grand Canyon trip. Went to REI to pick up some necessities. Found a nice tent ( Sierra Designs Light Year CD ) and because it was the Memorial day sale, it was 20% off. Grabbed that and a ground cloth, a mini MagLite, and a copy of the Backpacker Gear Guide. I need to pick up some poles and new boots.
Went to the mall on monday and got totally dressed down by the sales chick when talking about multi-vitamins. Said I was taking some grocery store brand and she was all 'Oh sweety...' and proceded to learn me all about vitamins. Picked up some meal replacement shakes and I am now fully multivitimined.
Woke up this morning to do the whole biking/hiking thing. Mental note - cute girl jogs up Hayden Butte at 6am.
Other then this, I messed with the computer this weekend, got my CD-RW working again and watched a couple of movies.
Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

I was just explaining open source to my boss. We found a bug in an open source product that we were using. The bug is beyond my current ability to fix, so we reported it and went to find another way to build our product. He is upset because the developers released a Release Candidate of the next version, and the bug we reported is still unfixed. He doesn't seem to realize that the developers are under no obligation to fix the bug we reported.

I got my permits for camping the Grand Canyon last night :)
The problem is, they also sent me a VHS tape to watch. I have no VCR, let alone a television to watch it on. Does anyone know anyone who could encode the tape to an avi or something and burn it on a cd-rom for me?

Why do people use the phrase 'almost exactly'?

Speaking of movies, I have been reading reviews for The Matrix Reloaded, but I haven't yet seen it. It's been in the theaters for a week now and I can't get up the enthusiasm to go to the theater and see the damn movie. It's not just this movie, either. There is a pile of movies that I want to go see. Cowboy BeeBop, X2, Bend it like Beckham, Identity, Raising Victor Vargas, and Down with Love ( hay, I loved those Rock Hudson/Doris Day movies, so fuck off ) are all playing at theaters in the valley, but I just can't get up the energy to go see them. And they are not far away either, most of them are playing within walking distance of home. When I first moved down here, and when I lived in Grand Rapids, I went to the movies almost constantly. I was seeing one or more movies a week. Maybe I'm just burned out on the whole movie experience. I would much rather sit at home and watch dvds then deal with the $143.36 it costs to go to the movies these days. Is it just me?

Got NetFlix movies last night. First movie was 'Vanilla Sky', which in the opinion of this reviewer, sucked. It was an interesting idea, but I really didn't need to be beaten over the head with the explanation in the last 20 minutes or so. I have the original Spanish language version in my queue, and it is supposed to be so much better. Second movie was 'Ghost World', which was pretty good. Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi were pretty good. I am going to have to watch that one again to really make a decision on it. Last movie was 'Sidewalks of New York'. I had wanted to see it when it was in the theaters, but there is nothing more pathetic then seeing a date movie alone. It was pretty good and Heather Graham managed to not look like a muppet in this one, as she did in the disappointing 'From Hell'.

Nothing much going on. I'm getting a new Sparc 20 soon, or rather, I'm buying a 20" Sun monitor that happens to come with a sparc. So I will soon have spare sparc parts. Anyone in need of spare sparc parts (ram, drives, etc) should let me know.
Just finished 'Lonesome Dove' over the weekend, and realized that Larry McMurtry, like most other authors I have a love-hate relationship, subscribes to the 'lets kill the interesting character' theory of writing. Pisses me off. Started reading 'The Big Sleep', by Chandler, and am realizing how much Faulkner changed when he wrote the screenplay.
Played boardgames over the weekend, and played my first Go game against Martin. I have to get my home phone situation worked out so I can play online soon.

I have a question. I have noticed a trend among the young, nubile college girls around here. They are wearing shorts with things written across the seat.
My question is, is this implicit permission to stare at their asses?
