So I'm starting a new gig in a couple of weeks. I am excited about it, but I am a little sad about leaving the product I have worked on for the last year and a half. It would have been nice to see it installed and working. But on to new and different things. At least the project is pretty much done, so I don't have to worry too much.
I must be getting old, because one of the reasons I'm starting the new gig is money, but in the 'I want to buy a house in a year or two' way, not just a generic greed way. Looking at houses in the Tempe area, they seem to be around 125k so I want at least 10k initially going into it, and what I make now I could save that, if I sat at home in the dark eating ramen every night.

Update:
Now I am having 18th thoughts about taking the new gig. I am really starting to think about staying around to see the product all the way through. I just don't anymore. What should I do???

Shit. One of my 2gig SCSI drives has gone down. The worst part is it took about 500 mp3s and my cvsroot with it. Ga...

I should be playing Star Wars Galaxies, but due to the last post, I started working on my own RSS reader again, with the spiffy new Eclipse 3.0 milestone.
Here is a current screenshot, and why yes, it does respect HTTP/1.1 304 not modified return codes to save bandwidth. I need to add the persistence system to it, and I am thinking of useing JDBM for it. The downside to that is that to search, you need to walk the tuples manually which seems like it would be too slow. I was thinking of using the java interface to Sleepycat DBM, but I lack a Visual C++ compiler to build it and I want something I can run on my Linux desktop and Win2K laptop.

Is it just me, or does Mac OSX have all the cool software. They have NetNewsWire, a totally cool RSS reader, VoodooPad, a really interesting notepad/personal wiki type program, and Tinderbox, a really nifty looking "content management assistant". Where are these cool type programs for linux and/or windows? Why isn't anyone writing this stuff in, I don't know, Java so it is portable? Gah...

Picked up some cd's this weekend, one of them being John Coltrane 'A Love Supreme'. I mean, damn. Now I am wondering how I could have gone for 30 years not owning this. Really amazing stuff.

Well, I have been running this blog for about 2 years, and it's been fun. Sadly, it appears that it will be ending shortly. It seems as though all of my time will now be occupied by the newest piece of crack from LucasArts, Star Wars Galaxies : An Empire Diveded, an immersive MMORPG set in the Star Wars universe ( just after the 1st movie/4th episode ).

Many Bothans died to bring you this blog entry.

Talking to the woman down at the AM/PM near my apartment, she told me last night some guy pulled a gun on the cashier for a sandwich. You know, one of those 3 dollar turkey sandwiches. I mean really, if you are going to commit armed robbery, at least get some beer and, I don't know, the money? Americans really are getting stupider every day. It's just sad, is all.

So, I've been thinking of taking Yoga, but in looking around it seems there are all these different styles and such. I am mainly interested in endurance & aerobic training, along with balance. Is there one style/form/whatever that would emphasize this or doesn't it really matter? The main reason I am looking at Yoga is the only thing about gyms I like are the circuit machines, but I could never get on the machines when I wanted( people would 'hang out' on the machine ), plus the structure/scheduled time of a Yoga class would keep me going.

So, it's official. After months of self-imposed exile, I have rejoined the internet community. I now have major cable-modem mojo again, and this can only mean one thing. More obtuse, drunken rambleings. And as the helpful ( and early ) cable installer guy was attempting to explain things to me, I was actually able to restrain the ritual slapping and screaming of 'Yes, I do this for a living. I know more about this then you. Go away!!!' And there was much rejoicing.

And as I sit here watching Solaris 9 install on my Sparc's new drives ( giant space-hogging pig fucker it is ), I open the browser and wonder, what now? What is it ( other then debian updates ) that I have been needing to have this cable modem goodness for. Seems like several people are redoing their blogs ( Meg and Robyn to name a couple ) I guess I am rethinking this blog. Is it supposed to have a point? An end goal or at least some sort of reoccuring theme? Dunno. For now, I guess it will remain the scattered things that come into my brain.

I have started reading ( re-reading? ) the new, improved, revised and expanded 'The Gunslinger' by Stephen King, who isn't quite rich enough yet, it seems. Ok, I finished it tonight, and it was good but there was nothing that jumped out at me as new from the last time I read it some 15 years ago. At least the series will be ending soon, so I can start the others.

Also, when the Solaris 9 installer throws this error about your newly aquired drives, "Corrupt Volumn Label Bad Magic Number. You stupid silly bitch! You just threw away good money on eBay for broken drives!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA" ( ok I added that last part ), just wait until it dumps you to a shell prompt, type 'format', select your drives, and reboot.

Have you ever gotten a song stuck in your head? Or even worse, the idea of a song stuck in your head. From time to time, I get a small chunk of a song in my head that I can't identify. Like half a refrain or a small piece of harmony, and then I have to OCD until I figure out what song it is. Does that ever happen to you?

So, am I the only person on the planet cynical enough to not be impressed by fireworks anymore? I don't think I have seen one new thing in the last few years that doesn't seem just like every fireworks display I have seen in my entire life. Some days I believe I am just getting too grouchy for my own good.

When telling people you are getting cable internet access, say "I ordered my Cox Cable Internet service today", not "I ordered my Cox today".
