So, I have this problem, when it comes to personal programming projects. I have a lot of ideas for smallish applications, that if I could just get around to writing, would make a lot of my life easier. The problem is, once I figured out how to solve the problem, I can never get around to actually implementing it. It's always more interesting to move on to the next problem instead. Does anyone else have that?

Of course, for work I had to write this little perl eventhandler to create tickets in a trouble ticket system automagically when the network monitoring system detects trouble. So far, it's at a measly 114 LOCs, and according to SLOCcount, it's worth $2,763. Now, the interesting problem is trying to figure out how to bill my employer for it :)

Gah! My monitor decided to die tonight. I bought that monitor about 3 years ago, and it served me well. I am going to see if I can get it repaired, otherwise I will get myself a new monitor for my birthday.

On another front, I have been messing with Ruby lately. It all started when I was looking at a package called BaseCamp. It's based on a framework called Rails. Really easy to use, built-in persistance, and easy MVC. So a few hours and less then 200 lines later, I have a semi-functional computer/software inventory system. I could have done it in perl/modperl, but not in 200 (easily readable) lines.

After a life of torment as a 'Scotty', and reading of his health troubles, all I can say is

Beam me up, one last time.
