So, I have this idea regarding blog-spam. I use Movable Type, and the 3.x versions have comment moderation. I'm wondering, could a blog comment be passed through something like SpamAssassin, and based on it's spam score, be placed on the blog immediately or put into moderation, if the score is high enough. Hopefully I will have some time in the near future to look into this.

So, I have this idea. Actually, this idea was spawned from an episode of 'Bubblegum Crisis' I saw a long time ago. It goes something like this.

I don't read the newspaper, because of the papers I have read, there are only a few sections, and a few parts of sections, that I am actually interested in. What I would like to do is subscribe to the sections I am interested in. Some things I am interested in are the movie listings of some of the theaters near me. We have a couple of art theaters here that really play good stuff, but I really don't care what is playing at the 24 screen megaplex. I am interested in our local symphony, but not being an aficionado, I don't much care what happens in other cities. I like our local paper's editorial section, because it contains things that appeal to me. I like Dave Barry (although he isn't writing papers anymore). I like the NYTimes Technology section, but a lot of the rest doesn't appeal to me. I like a lot of blogs, but maybe not every entry. I like music reviews, but don't much care to read reviews of the latest Tupac album.

So the Idea is to be able to subscribe to 'feeds' from different papers and websites, and have it formatted into a nice printable format (like a PDF), that can be output by my printer while I am in the shower and ready for me to enjoy over a nice cup of coffee, either here at home, at the local coffee shop, or over my first cup at work. It would contain things I am interested in, and some other things I might be interested in, based on the things I am currently reading. Between all of this, I would pay about the cost of a daily newspaper, maybe more because it is all stuff I want to read and, theoretically, nothing I don't. I would pay more for a paper filled with just things I want to read, actually. It should be available in a dead tree format I can enjoy away from the computer, but accessable online, to perhaps click links to things I might enjoy. Advertisements wouldn't be frowned upon, but they should be ads I am interested in, since you already know what kinds of things I am interested in.

All the technology is in place for this to happen (save a usable micropayment infrastructure). Between always-on broadband internet access, RSS feeds, XSLT formatting, Web Services, and things like Amazon's ability to reccomend things I might like, this really should be possible.

So could one of you get off your butts and invent this already? I'm tired of waiting.

Things I dislike about Flash

Now, I like Flash. There are many things that you can do with Flash that are really cool and useful. But, there is always a but, I use FireFox as my default browser. This allows me to do things, like tabbed browsing. Tabs are cool, because I can 'middle-click' a link and open it in a new tab while continuing to read whatever it is I am reading. I do this a lot with ads. These are things that I want to look at, but not just now. The thing is, I can't middle-click a Flash ad to, basically, mark it as something to look at later. If Macromedia could fix this, then there would be a marked increase in my Flash ad click-through rate.

FYI
